During the land acquisition for the widening of Bareilly-Sitapur highway, officers and 19 influential people have committed a scam of Rs 58.91 crore in Pilibhit district by colluding. This has been revealed in the report of a five-member inquiry committee constituted by the Divisional Commissioner.
According to the investigation committee, SA Infra Structure Consultant Company, NHAI, Revenue Department, Competent Authority Office and the concerned employees and officers of Public Works Department, which provided survey and valuation report against the rules of the assets, are responsible for this. The Divisional Commissioner has sent the report to the government for action against them.
Investigation has revealed that 19 people from outside and their family members bought land in 27 villages in collusion immediately after the notification of the highway was issued. These include buyers from Rampur, Delhi, Udham Singh Nagar, Lucknow, Noida, Bareilly. Local brokers (Ramesh Gupta etc.) helped local people buy and sell plots by luring them with jobs etc.
